NOTES
SCL teams are known for high OBP, superior rotations and suffocating defenses. This year's edition still has the superior rotation and the suffocating defense but falls short in the OBP area so it will be up to Ed to improvise and make the best of what he has. I have no doubt he will find a way to overcome what the numbers predict.
A perfect example is Don Hood. Hood does not have a high ERA+ ranking but he has outstanding numbers when it comes to holding opposing hitters to low OPS numbers. Ed is following the Roger Nelson theory of drafting pitchers. These pitchers fly below the radar when owners look at ERA+ and even FIP numbers but they have outstanding OPS numbers and have no limitations on IP and can start and relieve. A key to success for SCL in 73 is how effective Pernal uses Hood. Nonetheless, just looking at the overall numbers.
