Cincinnati Continues to Dominate the Playoff Race
The Reds (17), Braves (13), Senators (11), Dodgers (8), Tigers (8) and Cardinals (8) currently hold the 6 playoff tickets but the Giants (7), Pirates (7), Angels (7) and Red Sox (6) are close behind.
The Reds have a powerful offense, consistent starting pitching, a surprisingly effective bullpen and a solid defense. The Braves match up with the Reds in hitting prowess but their bullpen could hamper their playoff run. The Senators are the surprise of the project and are still building on their early season win streak. The Dodgers are rising through the ranks and hope to retain their 1965 MLB crown thanks to the exploits of Koufax and Drysdale while the Tigers and Cardinals try to find the right mix of aging vets and talented youth.
The Giants and Pirates have the hitting but their pitching is inconsistent. The Angels have a great pitching staff but struggle to score runs. The Red Sox have solid hitting but Red Sox nation agonizes over the lack of a bullpen. The 1965 AL champs are lagging behind with a 4-6 record.
120 games are in the books with 60 games left. The Chapter 7 schedule will go from worst to first , chapter 8 from first to last while chapter 9 will go from the middle out.
Inside Pitch continues to excite and provides tons of fun. One game went 18 innings while Marichal and Koufax suffered agonizing defeats in the chapter. The Digital Diamond board game companion does a great job of keeping scorecards and compiling stats. The King of the Hill format gives every team an opportunity yet rewards the superior teams with more games. The format also gives each game the feel of a playoff game. Finally, 1965 was a great year for baseball.
