NOTES
You have to be out of your mind to give a new owner the #1 seed in the LIPL but the numbers make a compelling case. This team has the capacity to destroy any pitching staff. Talk about an A team !!! How many teams can send players like Hargrove (A4), Bailey (A2), Garr (AA4), Gross (A3) and Henderson (A3) onto the field ?? Throw in the all time hit leader, Pete Rose (B5) and you do not need much else to make a strong playoff run.
The pitching staff ranks 7th out of 16 teams. HOFer Don Sutton (B) leads a staff which includes Big Daddy Reuschel (B), Dave Roberts (B+) and solid vets like Hooton (C+), Odom (C+) and Jerry Reuss (C). The lack of a quality closer may be a problem for NJRD nation but the major wild card is the rookie owner/manager Jeffries.
It should be a great LIPL season with plenty of excitement and a number of different story lines. Jeffries freshman year should be one of the many stories to follow this season but the bottom line for all of us is we love baseball and we have some great owners to share it with in the 74 season.
