NOTES
Has a new version of Moneyballhit the LIPL ??
Conrad Brunner is on the cutting edge of how to win a LIPL auction. If his present team isn't proof of how well Brunner's auction strategy works, take a look at these OPS+ hitting numbers of players who could be wearing MSS uniforms in 75:
Brett 130 Brown O. 149 Driessen 133 Smith. Reg. 147 Von Joshua 130 Fred Lynn 174
It sounds simple but signing future stars with poor present value has a cost to it but it may be no different than signing players at their highest value and watch them lose huge values at the end of the contract. If the majority of the league owners ignore the later problem, owners like Brunner will continue to take advantage of a strategy that could produce a 1975 MSS LIPL championship. The MSS pitching staff ranks 3rd in the LIPL and it will not only be effective but also very entertaining. Rollie Fingers is an ace closer who never signed with the Yankees given his old fashioned mustache. Gullett, Lonborg, Reed and Richert will keep MSS in any game while solid vets like Pattin and Alexander could be the X factor in a tough playoff series.
Ferguson, Oliver and Reggie Smith will provide the offense. Reggie Smith could be the most underrated player in the LIPL which is another reason MSS could go all the way in 74 and 75. Look for MSS to make a few trades to upgrade the middle of the defense.
The LIPL's Northern Division has 2 of the top 3 teams in the LIPL and #7 NBR is close behind. While it looks like a great dogfight, the numbers say:
