NOTES
Mr. Meyers made a strong statement in his initial draft which should cause some consternation among other league owners. The Stars and Scrubs approach basically says draft as many stars as you can afford and use as little money as possible to fill the left over holes in the roster. Meyers gets a A+ for his moves in his initial auction.
Blyleven graded out as the top pitcher in the draft and Phil Niekro is one of the top 25 starters in the league. This dynamic duo can knock off any team in the playoffs in the same way Koufax-Drysdale , Johnson-Schilling and other combos with World Series rings. Briles is a solid starter while Zamora and Jackson hold down the bullpen.
Willie Stargell is the best hitter in the league while Hank Aaron and Gary Matthews will protect Stargell from intentional walks. Doug Rader, Claude Washington and Lee May are solid vets but the offense fizzles out after you get past these players.
Meyer should hope the pitching staff does not need a lot of defense given many of the fielders are below average in range and/or error rates. Ted Sizemore is a notable exception.
Arizona plays in the tough Western Division so there is always the threat all of these great teams will wear each other down as if they were college football teams fighting it out in the SEC. Nevertheless, no matter where the Warriors are predicted to finish, Blyleven and Niekro could take the Rattler Warriors to the 74 World Series. ARW nation cannot wait for the 74 season to start.
