NOTES
Wow... Wow... Wow....
Joe Ingersoll is the most successful owner in league history. Two World Series rings and four straight trips to the playoffs tells you the guy knows what he is doing so it is pretty arrogant for someone to analyze anything the guy does but I like a challenge.
It must be tough to have an All Star outfield of Jay Johnstone, Rick Monday and Richie Zisk.. Throw in Rod Carew and Bill Madlock and you wonder how anyone can get through the lineup without serious damage. The supporting cast brings a variety of anything you need whether it is speed, defense or some clutch pinch hitting. But not so fast my friend. Left handed pitchers may be the kryptonite which can slay this dragon while Madlock and Carew are weak defenders so there are some weaknesses opponents may be able to exploit.
Even if you come up with a way to survive the offensive assault, you have to deal with the best pitching staff in the league. Jenkins, Johnson, Messersmith and Hunter will shut down any opponent and even if they tire, Reynolds and House will shut down any rally. The pitching staff is strong enough all by itself to sweep by any opponent in the playoffs.
Numbers are not supposed to lie but I think the numbers are under estimating this team. Time will tell but the numbers say ......
