1966 GOWDY MEMORIAL: CHAPTER 7
TOY CANNON LEADS ASTROS' SURGE
THE PROJECT
Hello baseball fans....
This project is named after Curt Gowdy, my favorite broadcaster. Gowdy made sure his listeners understood every ballplayer's story of their journey to the majors and their virtues and vices on the field.

1966 Inside Pitch Game and Cards
PROCESS
I play 180 games made up of 9 chapters of 20 games each. The more a team wins, the more games they play. When I was a kid back in Northeast KC, we only had 1 basketball court in Budd Park so we played some pick up games and your team stayed on the court as long as the team won. The king of the hill format works the same way.
The 6 teams with the most wins at the end of the 180 games qualify for the playoffs ranked 1 thru 6. Here is the playoff schedule:
Team 6 vs Team 5 ( 1 Game)
Winner vs Team 4 ( Best of 3 )
Winner vs Team 3 ( Best of 5 )
Winner vs Team 2 ( Best of 5 )
Winner vs Team 1 ( Best of 7 )
CHAPTER 7 NOTES

The loss dropped the Pirates into 2nd place in the playoff race.
Donn Clendenon is currently 3rd in the MVP computer vote while Steve Blass ranks 5th in the Cy Young voting.
The Pirates have the highest run differential in the league (56) which is the first tie breaker in determining playoff slots.
Clemente ranks 5th in the HR race but suffers from a subpar 686 OPS rate. Look for Clemente and Stargell (701) to heat up over the last 2 chapters. If they do, the Pirates could grab the number 1 ranking in the playoff race.

It is hard to see how the Dodgers made it to the 1966 MLB World Series with just an average offense. Still, the trio of Koufax, Drysdale and Sutton can always get hot and shutdown any offense in the playoffs.
The Dodgers defeated the Giants 3-2 and are the king of the hill going into chapter 8.

The Astros went 6-1 in chapter 7 which included blowout wins over the Red Sox (11-0) and the Indians (12-0). Houston did not play any of the current playoff leaders in the chapter.
Joe Morgan hit 481 in the chapter.
5. Los Angelos Dodgers 11-7
League Rankings
OPS 10
ERA 4
FLD 7
RDIF 14
Pitching Leaders W-L ERA SO
Sandy Koufax 2-2 2.37 30
Don Drysdale 2-2 2.57 26
Don Sutton 3-1 2.48 23
Hitting Leaders HR RBI OPS SB
Maury Wills 0 3 683 6
John Roseboro 0 3 801
Notes
It is hard to see how the Dodgers made it to the 1966 MLB World Series with just an average offense. Still, the trio of Koufax, Drysdale and Sutton can always get hot and shutdown any offense in the playoffs.
The Dodgers defeated the Giants 3-2 and are the king of the hill going into chapter 8.
6. Minnesota Twins 10-7
League Rankings

Mudcat Grant 2-1 2.37 10
Jim Perry 3-0 3.38 17
Hitting Leaders HR RBI OPS SB
Harmon Killebrew 4 16 895
Notes
The Twins only have a 6 run differential so they have little room for error given the Boston Red Sox ( 10-9) and California Angels (9-7) are hot on their tails.
