1967 CURT GOWDY IP PROJECT: REPORT 1
TOM SEAVER BEGINS HOF CHASE
THE 1967 CURT GOWDY PROJECT BEGINS
The project is named in honor of Curt Gowdy, my favorite sports broadcaster of my youth.
PROJECT TOOLS
1. Inside Pitch board game and 1967 player cards
2. Google dice roller
3. Digital Diamond Board Game Companion
4. IP Liberty League Rulebook revised for project
5. King of the Hill Scheduling Format
6. Unique All Star Tournament
SCHEDULING
REGULAR SEASON
This year I will use a straight KOH schedule. I start by listing the teams based on total wins in the season. Second, the NL and AL champs will play the first 2 games of the season. The regular season schedule includes 180 games broken up in 9 chapters of 20 games each.
PLAYOFFS
Top 6 teams qualify for the playoffs. Teams are ranked 1 through 6.
1. 6 at 5: 1 game playoff
2. W1 at 4: best of 3
3. W2 at 3: best of 5
4. W3 at 2: best of 7
5. W4 at 1: best of 7
PAST CHAMPIONS
1965: Milwaukee Braves
1966: Pittsburgh Pirates
1967 STORY LINES
The AL pennant race comes to mind but there is no AL-NL leagues in the project. Everything is based on the premise the more you win, the more you play.
Initially, you suspect Boston and St. Louis should dominate the project but there are 18 other teams who want to make their mark. Every game has a playoff intensity.
4 man rotations are used based on innings pitched. So Bob Gibson is #4 in the Cardinal rotation and St. Louis fans will hold their breath given he has a high injury rating (5).
It will be interesting to see all the questions this project will either raise or answer regarding the 1967 MLB season. It is sure to provide hours of fun.
