SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS ARE THE 1967 CURT GOWDY IP PROJECT CHAMPIONS

 GIANTS 1967 WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

The 1967 World Series matched up the #1 seed Philadelphia Phillies against the #4 seeded San Francisco Giants.  Both teams surprised the baseball gurus who expected a rematch of the 1967 MLB World Series between the St Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox.  The Red Sox languished near the bottom of the 1967 project with a dismal 3-10 record while the St. Louis Cardinals  managed to obtain a #3 seed in the playoffs before the Giants upset them 3 games to 1 in a playoff series.

The Giants finished the season with the best offense and pitching in the project but had the worst defense.  SFG moved Jim Ray Hart to LF, Jim Davenport to 3B and Hal Lanier to SS to shore up the defense and it was a factor in propelling the team to the World Series.

The Phillies had the best regular season in the project relying on the 4th best offense and pitching staff backed up by the 2nd best defense.  Philadelphia played Dick Allen at shortstop hoping his bat would overcome any lack of range in the field.

The World Series would start with 2 games in Philadelphia, 3 at Candlestick  and the final 2 games back at Connie Mack stadium.
