ROUND 2 RESULTS

#1 Cincinnati used a 7 game win streak to take the top spot in the standings with a 7-2 record.  Pete Rose leads the league in PA (47), H (18) and 3B (2).  Vada Pinson leads the league in 2B (5) and RBIs (12).   Jim Maloney leads the league in Wins (2), ERA (0.60) and Ks (17). Sammy Ellis chipped in with league leading IP (19) and GS (3).

#2 Washington posts  a 6-1 record.  Don Lock leads the league in HRs (3) while Marshall Bridges leads the league in appearances (4) and saves (3).  The Senators downed the Giants 5-4 in the last game of round 2 to secure the second spot.

#3 San Francisco stands at 6-2 on the season.  Losses to Washington and Detroit are the only blemishes on their record at this juncture in the season.  Willie McCovey has an impressive slash line ( 500/857/1357).  Bob Shaw has 2 wins and a 1.84 ERA.

#4 Milwaukee checks in at 5-2.  The Angels and Giants beat the Braves.  Joe Torre is off to a fast start ( 600/792/1392).  Ken Johnson has 2 wins and a 1.38 ERA.

#5 Detroit and #6 St Louis both have 4-2 records.  Al Kaline (524/1000/1577) has the early lead for MVP while Lou Brock leads the league in SBs (3).


40 games and 2 rounds are in the books.  This format really gives you the feel of the intensity of the playoffs.  The playoff system also rewards teams for winning during the regular season yet still gives every team a shot at winning the championship.
