ANALYSIS

Krueger has alot to build on if Fernando Tatis can overcome his attitude and his injuries.  Couple his talent with Bobby Witt and Vladi Guerrero and you have a solid nucleus.  Luis Robert has yet to unlock his talent but still manages to perform as a solid MLB CF.  Parades is an underrated player with alot of flexibility on the corners.

Detmers continues to improve and last year he was a solid starter but only pitched 129 innings. Lyles (179) and Pleasac (131) will try to eat up some innings and Freddy Peralta (569) is a great spot starter to go up against NL powerhouses.  The bullpen can be quite effective if managed well enough to take advantage of various strengths and hide some tough weaknesses.  Houck (608) and Stephan (628) are the best arms in the pen and Roogies like Young (612R) and Underwood (620R) can cause headaches for RH hitters while Loggies Gore (619L) and Rainey (598L) can neutralize lefties.

Krueger's biggest decision is what to do with Fernando Tatis.... A knee jerk reaction would be just wait out the suspensions and injuries and hope he returns to his former All Star level.  This makes alot of sense if Witt, Detmers and Gore realize their vast potential.  On the other hand, there is something to the old adage about selling high but I do not know how that applies when the value of an asset is in flux.

Bottom Line:  Arsenal is building the organization from the ground up and the future looks bright.  As for the present, look for the Scottsdale Arsenal to finish in the basement of the SSL NL West.

Comments

  1. The interesting question on Tatis... What position does he play when he returns?

As a SS, Tatis has huge value. But Bogaerts will be manning SS. SD has about a dozen shortstops in the organization now. Do they trade Tatis?

Does his value diminish as an outfielder?

Can he stay healthy in the outfield?

  2. If Tatis is a 150-160 wRC+ bat, he has huge value anywhere. I'm guessing he's a full-time OF from now on. I'd be more worried about the injuries and the PEDs.

  3. Which leads to how much of the 150-160 wRC+ was PED related? Ethical questions aside. Can the Padres count on him being there for the team? If they doubt that, I think they have to find a taker and move on from him.
